Background: Dr. Sharifi sees patients in the Lung GVHD clinic at Stanford University, a clinic dedicated to the care of persons with pulmonary complications after stem cell transplant. He has been caring for patients with chronic GVHD since 2017 and has developed analytical models that blend artificial intelligence and clinical assessment for the management and treatment of lung complications in transplant recipients. He also runs a home spirometry trial in Stanford for the early detection of Bronchiolitis Obliterans Syndrome (BOS) in coordination with University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the latter as the coordinating center of the multi-center trial. In addition to publications in the leading journals of Pulmonary and Radiology on pulmonary complications after hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT), he has served with Dr. Joe Hsu as co-investigator of a phase 1 trial using the medication pirfenidone in patients with BOS: The Safety and Tolerability of Pirfenidone for BOS after HCT (STOP-BOS)."
