Thanks to Photophoresis, things have imporvd. I also take Jakafi which has helped stop the progression of GVHD. Scalera lenses have helped with the dry eyes, and surgery will assist with scar tissue. I am extremely happy to be alive and doing everything I can to mitigate what suppressing your immune system does to your body.

Three months after getting married, I was diagnosed with AML. A year of chemo and two transplants, I am here. GVHD hit me hard after the second transplant. My mouth and GI track were not so difficult to calm. Unfortunately, by the time the eyes and genitalia was discovered, it was too late. Through a clean diet, exercise, sleep, stress, reduction, and the help of really anti-inflammatory supplements, I feel better. There are days when I feel down because of the cognitive decline and knowledge that my life will never be the same. I think this is a struggle that most of us experience in one way or another. I am grateful for my team at the City Of hope and UC DAVIS and my husband who has never left my side. I’m able to volunteer as a licensed aesthetician certified and oncology aesthetics. I help cancer patients across the country with dermatological side effects of their medication‘s and oncology treatments.
Cancer has been quite a long and difficult road, but I am on the other side and feeling good.
