Background: Ms. Marks worked as a Senior Clinical Social Worker at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for over seven years. For part of that time, she worked with the Bone Marrow Transplant team following patients from diagnosis through the early survivorship period. She found that the support she was able to provide helped patients cope with the stress and move towards healing.
She has worked primarily with patients undergoing an autologous stem cell transplant (transplant using donor cells) but is familiar with transplants using donor cells (allogeneic transplants) and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). She has helped patients and their families deal with secondary cancers, relapse, end of life issues and grief and loss. She has not yet had experience working with CAR T-cell therapy patients.
