Where Service is Provided: Private practice
Fee Structure: In-network private insurance provider, Out-of-network private insurance, Self Pay, Sliding scale based on ability to pay
I work with clients to make care affordable through the ebbs and flows of income and insurance changes in the course of the disease. I neither reject clients for limited ability to pay nor terminate treatment for that reason.
Background: Dr. Afshar received his doctorate in Applied Psychology at CCU and masters degree in Counseling and Consulting Psychology at Harvard University Graduate School of Education and has significant experience supporting the psychological needs of cancer patients and those undergoing major medical treatments. He also supports patients' families.
During his training, he saw a number of children going through transplant. Since going into private practice, he has worked with several adult patients who had a bone marrow/stem cell transplant. He is familiar with the issues facing patients and family members from diagnosis through long-term survivorship including late effects such secondary cancers, relapse, end of life concerns, and grief and bereavement. He has not yet worked with patients who have graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) or who have been through CAR T-cell therapy.
