Helping Your Child with Learning and Organizational Challenges after Transplant

Learn about organizational and learning challenges that can occur after your child’s transplant, and strategies with these challenges.

Dr. Christa Hutaff-Lee is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Neurology, and Neurosurgery at The University of Colorado School of Medicine, and a Pediatric Neuropsychologist in the Division of Neurology at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

Dr. Andrea Miele is an Instructor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and serves as a Pediatric Neuropsychologist in the Division of Neurology at Children’s Hospital Colorado.

  • Risks for thinking and behavior problems in children after a hematopoietic cell transplant (HSCT or bone marrow transplant).
  • The etiology (cause) of thinking and behavior weaknesses in children who have undergone bone marrow transplants.
  • Ways to measure a child’s strengths and areas of weakness.
  • Strategies for use at home and in school to support children with neurocognitive impairments.
  • Discussion of school based interventions including a 504 Plan and Individualized Education Program (IEP).
